Spinach Can Improve Your Eyesight

submitted by equanimity
Spinach isn't just for Popeye!

An eye-popping news asks, "Can spinach save your eyesight?"

Oh yes, according to the researches at Harvard Medical School & University of Sydney.

Surprise! What we eat actually influences the long-term health of our eyes.

Not only spinach, but all kinds of dark green leafy vegetables such as kale, collard greens and turnip greens can! They contain natural lutein and zeaxanthin, which are potent antioxidants that protect the eyes against damaging free radicals that may cause cataracts and macular degeneration.

Lutein & zeaxanthin are also contained in: broccoli, avocados, zucchini, peas, corn, brussels sprouts, tangerines, dark leafy salad greens.

These greens' precious nutrients are best maintained when least cooked, so try to put them very last to your beloved dishes. Otherwise, you may want to eat them raw, in your sandwiches, salads, and green smoothies & juices!
